Deerfield

Deerfield is often referred to by many as “the center of town” in Mountainside. Educating students in grades 3-8, Deerfield staff members collaborate with the community to strike a balance between a rigorous and standards-based instructional program and the many enrichment opportunities that take place before, during, and after school hours. Information about additional enrichment opportunities can be found within the district website including links for the Parent Teacher Association and Mountainside Education Foundation.

Emphasis has been placed on several district initiatives specific to curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Middle school computer literacy, journalism, and study skills curricula have been drafted to support a shift toward 21st century learning experiences introduced by the New Jersey Department of Education. In addition, Deerfield staff members have been afforded the opportunity to serve on science and social studies countywide curriculum committees, to participate in professional learning communities relative to our balanced literacy program, and to develop Strategic Plans for each core curriculum content area. Each of these professional endeavors is aimed at supporting student achievement.

Playing an integral role in an extremely caring, close, and supportive community, Deerfield staff members pride themselves on meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of their students. If you would like more information regarding Deerfield, please feel free to call the school.
