Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Groth

My career began at St. Joseph the Carpenter School in Roselle many years ago after I earned a degree in English from Albright College and later pursued my certification in elementary education. I have been in Mountainside for 13 years and have been teaching for a total of 18 years.  Most of my years as an educator were spent teaching kindergarten, however this is my sixth year in first grade and I am delighted to be here! I am proud to say that I was selected as Beechwood School's Teacher of the Year during the 2015-2016 school year, which was an amazing honor amongst so many wonderful and deserving colleagues.

Being a creative person, I have a deep appreciation for art, music, and literature.  I try to incorporate these things in my classroom and expose my students to them, as well, to enhance their overall educational experience.  I play various genres of music while they write, love to read many fiction and non-fiction stories to the children, and always encourage them to use their creativity and imaginations in every aspect of our curriculum.  I strive to not only challenge and bring out the best in the children academically, but also to create an environment that is warm, stimulating, and inspiring.  In addition to all they learn, I hope that one day they will see a famous painting, hear a song, or notice a sparkle of glitter and fondly remember their time with me at Beechwood.  Of course, if you asked my students from previous years what they remember about me, they would most likely say that I love bunnies, I always win the Box Tops for Education pizza party... and that I am absolutely terrified of snakes!
