I have been teaching language arts literacy in Deerfield for many years.     I love reading and I'm always excited to read the latest middle school and young adult novels.  Meeting with book clubs and talking about novels is one of my favorite things to do.  

 My goal as a teacher is to build lifelong readers.  Reading should be a fun and enjoyable activity.  When a student says "I don't like reading"  my philosophy is that he just hasn't yet found a book that moves him.  As a family, set aside some technology free time every night where the entire family reads.   You may find it's the most enjoyable time of your day too!

Grading Policy

Academic - 70%

Informal writing (journal entries, post its, etc) - 30%

Formal Writing - planning, drafting, revision, editing - 40% 

Habits of Learning  - 30%

Homework/classwork - 20%

Engagement & Preparation - 10%

Work is due at 8am on the day indicated.

Late work will be accepted at a penalty of 5 points per day.  (Up to 1 week late)
