Welcome to Beechwood School (preschool - grade 2). Our school was established in 2003 due to an increased enrollment at Deerfield School (grades 3-8) located on Central Avenue. Since its establishment, we have ascribed to the philosophy of providing a learning environment that is filled with rich experiences and enhances the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of the whole child. Our goal is to have our children excited about coming to school, feeling positive about learning and about themselves, and interacting with other children and adults in a productive and positive manner.
When you walk into Beechwood you cannot help but feel the warmth and a sense of community. Our faculty members provide a variety of opportunities that allow our students to engage in hands-on activities and cooperative projects aligned with the recent 21st century learning initiative designed by the New Jersey Department of Education. Our students are encouraged to cooperatively work to develop hypotheses, to conduct experiments, and to create projects that allow for connections between their lives and the past and present world around them. We also provide instruction in the areas of art, library, music, physical education, Spanish, TEP (The Enrichment Program), and character education. In addition, we are very fortunate to collaborate with the PTA (Parent Teacher Association), MEF (Mountainside Education Foundation), and community members to make Beechwood the best it can be for our students.
